What is Invisalign?

Invisalign® is a custom-made aligner that is interchanged roughly every two weeks for a period of six to eighteen months, or longer depending on the severity of misalignment.

Is Invisalign Better than Traditional Braces?

Unlike conventional braces, Invisalign® is one of the most convenient methods to straighten teeth, requiring patients to make almost no life changes to accommodate the treatment. For example, patients can take out Invisalign® when brushing, flossing, eating, or drinking—a significant advantage over traditional metal braces that make good oral hygiene more difficult, but also are especially prone to damage when eating hard or chewy foods such as corn on the cob and potato chips. Because Invisalign® mouth trays are transparent (nearly invisible), patients using Invisalign® aligners can straighten their teeth without embarrassing metal brackets and wires taking away from the natural look of their smile. Invisalign®  is also gentle on cheeks and gums—unlike traditional metal braces, which contain sharp edges that can scrape or cut the inside of the mouth.

Is Invisalign painful?

Most patients experience no discomfort wearing the smooth, invisible aligners. There may be mild pressure associated with tooth movement when the aligners are changed, but this is temporary and typically resolved with over the counter pain medication.
