Inlays & Onlays Kanata & Ottawa, ON

Dental Inlays & OnlaysAn Overview

Inlay and onlays are effective treatment options for mild to moderate tooth decay. A more conservative treatment than dental crowns and more durable than dental fillings, inlays and onlays are a preferred method for conservatively restoring a tooth.

Dr. Barakat and his dedicated dental care team offers dental inlays and tooth onlays for patients of all ages.

Dental Inlay & onlays are made of high-quality professional grade dental porcelain. Dental porcelain is highly durable and is resistant to staining and future decay.

The porcelain can be colour matched to blend with your natural tooth enamel for a seamless and natural appearance. With good oral care, your restoration can last for over 10 years without needing touchups.

CEREC Same-day Dentistry

With CEREC CAD/CAM technology, dental restorations such as inlays, onlays, and dental crowns can now be designed and fabricated in just one visit. CEREC technology uses digital imaging and 3-D computer models to design your inlay or onlay for a precise and comfortable fit.

The CEREC machine translates the digital images of the mouth and designs and mills the restoration on site at our dentist office. This process greatly reduces your downtime and creates a quicker dental visit.

CEREC technology streamlines the dental restoration process. CEREC eliminates the need for an outside dental lab as well as multiple visits to the dentist. CEREC creates durable, natural dental restorations.

Dental Inlays & Onlays What to Expect

The dental onlay process is straightforward. Before we begin, we will first conduct a through dental exam. As a result, we will get a better grasp of your dental problems and be better equipped to recommend the appropriate treatments.

The last thing we want is to provide you with a treatment that does not get to the root of the problem. The next step is a through cleaning. The tooth will first be cleaned and cleared of all decayed tissue.

Once clean, the dentist will create digital impressions of your mouth. The designing process follows. Your inlay or onlay can be crafted while you wait, or you can come back if you are running on a tight schedule. We do our best to restore your oral health in a timely manner.

Using CEREC sculpting technology, and digital blue-ray imaging, Dr. Barakat will create 3-D models of your teeth to help build a precise treatment plan. These images are transferred to the CEREC computer to create a 3-D model of the affected area. With these images, CEREC fabricates a porcelain restoration to the exact specifications needed.

The inlay or onlay will precisely fit in the affected area. This helps seal out the potential future decay, and reinforces the stability of the tooth structure. Once you are satisfied with the fit and colour of the restoration, the inlay or onlay will be permanently bonded to your tooth.

Villanova Dental Studio uses CEREC technology for the convenience and reliability of creating high-quality porcelain dental restorations. Our dental team is able to design and create your porcelain inlay or onlay in a single visit in our Kanata, Ottawa, and Stittsville dentist office.

Dental Inlays & Onlays FAQs

How long does it take to get inlays and onlays?

The process is similar to getting a dental filling. With CEREC technology, it only takes a single visit to our dentist office. The process itself can take between one to two hours depending on which restoration you choose and where it’s being placed. Onlays take a bit longer.

Do inlays and onlays require special care?

No. You can treat inlays and onlays as if they were dental fillings. They do not need special products to maintain their integrity. They are also stain-resistant so you don’t have to worry about discolouration.

Do inlays and onlays look natural?

Yes. We use porcelain material for a natural look. Porcelain restorations are the most natural-looking restorations because they can be colour-matched to your other teeth for a seamless fit. You will forget you have an inlay or onlay after some time and no one will notice the difference.
