Prevent the Need for Braces with Myobrace®
For many teens, braces may seem like a rite of passage. Unfortunately, braces can be expensive as well as uncomfortable, or even painful. Wouldn’t it be better to treat the causes of crooked teeth before they develop? The Myobrace system can do just that.
What Is Myobrace?
Myobrace is a preventative treatment that combines exercises, habit training, and oral appliances to naturally guide proper tooth and jaw development. The exercises strengthen the muscles of the mouth, habit training promotes good oral health, and the oral appliances help hold the mouth in a good position.
What Can it Correct?
Myobrace can correct a wide range of poor oral habits, including:
- Thumb and finger sucking
- Breathing through the mouth
- Using lips to swallow
- Grinding or clenching teeth
- Using teeth as tools
These habits can cause dental problems later in life, but can be easily prevented. After all, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
What are the Benefits?
Preventative Myobrace treatment has a number of benefits over traditional braces:
- Comfortable and non-invasive
- Convenient
- Removable for better oral hygiene
- Most patients do not need retainers after treatment
- Discrete
- Natural way to straighten teeth
- Often no braces needed if Myobrace system is used properly
How it Works
Treatment is best started early – recommended from ages 3 to 15. Dr. Bakarat will perform an exam to see if your child is a suitable candidate for Myobrace treatment. If well-suited, your child will wear a series of removable intra-oral appliances, similar to mouth guards, for one to two hours a day and overnight. The child will also practice Myobrace® Activities, which are a series of breathing, tongue, swallowing, lip, and cheek exercises. The exercises will further correct myofunctional development. The combination of appliances, exercises, and patient education will guide the teeth to grow naturally straighter and healthier, minimizing or even eliminating the need for traditional orthodontic treatment.
